Carbon film resistor is a type of film resistor. It is formed by using high-temperature vacuum coating technology to tightly attach carbon to the surface of the ceramic rod to form a carbon film, then adding appropriate joints for cutting, and coating the surface with epoxy resin for sealing protection. Its surface is often coated with green protective paint. The thickness of the carbon film determines the resistance value, and the resistor is usually controlled by controlling the thickness of the film and the groove. Carbon film resistor, also known as "thermally decomposed carbon film resistor". A thin film resistor formed by the high-temperature thermal decomposition of hydrocarbons in vacuum and the deposition of carbon on a substrate. Low price, stable performance, wide range of resistance and power.

The main function of carbon film resistor

Circuit current limiting: When the voltage or current in the circuit exceeds a certain limit, carbon film resistors can act as current limiting devices to protect the circuit and other electronic components.

Voltage division and stabilization: By connecting multiple carbon film resistors in series or parallel, the voltage division and stabilization of the circuit can be achieved, making the circuit work more stable.

Resistance matching: The use of carbon film resistors in circuits can achieve resistance matching. For example, in amplifier circuits, impedance matching is required at the input and output terminals to improve output signal quality.

Temperature sensing: The resistance value of carbon film resistors is greatly affected by temperature, so they can be used as temperature sensors, such as using carbon film resistors to control water temperature in a constant temperature water bath.

Carbon film resistors have the following characteristics:

Good stability: Carbon film resistors have excellent long-term stability and are suitable for long-term use in various electronic devices.

Long lifespan: Due to its stable performance, carbon film resistors have a longer lifespan and are suitable for use in various environments.

Low cost: Carbon film resistors have a relatively low price and are suitable for large-scale production and application.

High noise: Due to the uneven surface of carbon film resistors, there is noise under DC conditions, which is not suitable for high-precision applications.

Carbon film resistors are widely used in the following scenarios:

Current limiting and diversion: Restricting the flow of current in a circuit to protect other components from damage.

Voltage reduction and division: Used in power circuits to reduce and divide voltage, ensuring the normal operation of the circuit.

Filtering and impedance matching: Carbon film resistors play a crucial role in filtering circuits and impedance matching circuits.
